Discovering His Entrepreneurial Passion
Lucas Pols was a driven undergraduate student at the University of Southern California with a passion for entrepreneurship. He had always been a creative and resourceful kid, and he loved coming up with new ideas and figuring out how to make them happen.
In his sophomore year, Lucas attended a campus networking event and noticed that there was no good way for students to connect with each other afterwards. He saw an opportunity to solve this problem, and he decided to launch a startup called Leaps to create a student networking platform.
Launching His First Venture with Leaps
Lucas began by conducting customer discovery, speaking to fellow students about their pain points and networking needs. He also researched the market, reading articles and attending events to gain insights. Although he had no technical experience, he assembled a team of developers to build the Leaps platform.

Gaining Corporate Experience at ADP
After graduating from USC, Lucas worked for three years at the HR firm ADP. This experience gave him valuable insights into business operations and management. He also learned how to build and scale a large organization.
Reaching New Heights with Peek
In 2016, Lucas co-founded Peek, a virtual reality (VR) platform that allowed users to take guided tours of global destinations. The company quickly became successful, and it raised millions of dollars in venture capital funding.
Under Lucas’s leadership, Peek delivered over 100,000 VR experiences worldwide, establishing him as an industry trailblazer. He was particularly proud of Peek’s VR content that enhanced elementary education, which he believed had the power to transform learning.
Reflecting on His Journey
In 2019, Lucas stepped down as CEO of Peek to reflect on his entrepreneurial journey. He realized that he had been working too hard and that he had neglected his personal life. He also wanted to do something that had a positive impact on the world.
Pursuing His Passion with Cameras for Kids

Now in his 30s, Lucas continues to lead Cameras for Kids while advising various startups. He mentors the next generation of young founders, teaching them to pace themselves and stay grounded as entrepreneurs.
